Bring up your baby without bringing down the environment. You want the best for your baby - beginning with the basics. That's why your diapering choice is so important. All day, all night, diapers make all the difference to your baby's comfort and well-being. But they're a big part of your life too, and convenience means a lot. How to choose? Commercial disposables. The “convenience” of disposables results in the dumping of over 18 billion diapers each year: non-recyclable paper, plastics, and untreated waste - an environmental nightmare. They're not the best choice for tender baby bottoms, either. Chemically treated disposable diapers are a major cause of diaper rash, and it's still unknown what long-term effects these chemicals may have on our babies' reproductive systems. Why risk constant exposure? As incontinent adults often tell us, paper and plastic are just plain uncomfortable! Cloth diapers. Pure cotton is soft and gentle on baby's skin. Affordable, breathable and naturally absorbent cloth diapers offer the best protection against diaper rash. Home-laundered diapers are less than half the cost of disposables, and a diaper service is just over half the cost. And cloth diapers don't pollute our precious planet! A conscious choice. To use cloth diapers is to make a conscious effort to not only meet the needs of your baby, but also the environment. Soft, breathable cotton diapers don't contain those super-absorbent chemical gels found in disposables, so you will need to change your baby's diaper a little more often. Most newborns will use up to twelve diapers per day; older babies eight to ten per day. As baby grows and extra absorbency becomes more important, you may want to add some of our Diaper Doublers. Try not to think of changing time as a chore, but as an opportunity to show your love and caring. Sing to your baby and make eye contact. It's a wonderful time for baby bonding! |
